The Salt March

When we gave the test of listening in the English subject, an article was on Gandhi. In a question, it mentioned the point on the march of the salt. I must admit that I had never listened on this and I wanted to investigate a bit more, because also it was a topic treated in Introduction's subject.

Initially of the 20th century in India, still colony of the British Empire, the people had prohibited to extract salt of the ocean, since always they had done it. In effect, the Indians were accustomed to taking a bit of water of the sea, hoping that it was evaporating and to use the salt that was staying.

But in the year 1900, the Britishers were not allowing it, because they had the monopoly of the salt and were charging imposed for the product. This rate was costing to the people in India, 115 million Francs - gold a year. Gandhi then organized the March of the salt to ask for the abolition of so unjust tax.

On March 12, 1930, Gandhi and other volunteers began the March of the Salt for on 380 kilometers, from Sabarmati to Dandi. All the big newspapers of the world published the strange trek. 26 days later, Gandhi was gathering salt from the Indian Ocean and was inviting the population to do the same thing.

On May 5, he organized an excursion to the governmental warehouse of salt in Dharasana. There he was arrested again. 2500 volunteers placed pacifically in front of the policemen who were guarding the salt. They were received to blows, turning out to be two dead persons and 300 wounds. About 100 thousand Indians were imprisoned.

On January 31, the Viceroy Lord Irwin put at liberty the leaders of the Congress and invited Gandhi to converse with him. On March 4, the Viceroy liberated all the political prisoners, returned all the properties confiscated to the Indians and abolished the laws on the salt. Gandhi, for his part, put end to the civil disobedience.

I did not know that.....

The native americans are a very rich culture, they have a lot of stories, legends and traditions, this cultures are a whole new world to discover, but almost nobody tries to find out more about it. A simple example, i have no idea taht pocahontas was based in real events, i'm really uneducated in this topic, so i seek for more information about her.
Pocahontas was the eldest daughter of Chief Powhatan, reputedly the favorite daughter of the Algonquin chief Powhatan. This is the only piece of onformation that i found taht did not have any references to the famous story of Pocahontas.

Pocahontas contributions to jamestown date from her early acquaintance whit Capt.JonSmith after his capture by Powhatan's man in 1607. her legendary rescue of the english captain in the verge ofhis execution was probably part of a indian adoption ceremony (misinterpreted or misunderstood by Simth), though it is possible taht without her intercession he would have been killed. in any event, relations between Powhatan and the fleding colony improved, and Pocahontas, then about twelve years old, became a frequent visitor at Jamestown and an important supplier of foodfor the colonists. She also became an informer for the colony, warning Smith of her father's belligerant plans.( http://www.history.com/topics/pocahontas)

As a child i never thought in the background of the movie "Pocahontas", but now that i think about it, she somehow betrayed her family and her tribe for a dazzeling new worl that was coming to wipe out everything she kenw. She trusted the white man and he took advantage of her naivety.

British Indian

The term refers to citizens of the United Kingdom whose ancestral roots lie in India and the people who was born in the United Kingdom who are of Indian descent.

The term refers too the Indian born people and they had to migrated to the United Kigdom and this people are call also as Indian Britishor Indian Britons.

In the United Kingdom the Indian British are accepted and includes in the society and his culture too because the British respects the Indian Culture But sometimes this make segregation between the British people and the Indian British.

The british Indian are socioeconomically affluet because they are members of the middle cast and they are the lowest poverty ratesamong all ethic groups in Britain.

I found this very interesting because they accepted and includes the Indian British  We should act like the British because we should respects our aboriginal and we should includes in our society.

Lets break the barrier of prejudices!

Why we have to reject or ignore things just due to prejudices?,a lot of people cant stand things because a color, because an origin, etc, in my peer teaching activity, while i was working in my topic "indian food in UK" i found so many bad testimonies about this kind of food!,and no one make sense!,people talking about their opinions, explaining that india its a dirty country, saying that indian food is unhealthy just because the word "India " its on it,so many delicious dishes rejected just by the origin,i would dare to say that indian food is full of history and effort,a lot of years were needed to create this succesful kind of food,so,what is the main problem here?,is the same problem present in all around the world, prejudices and stereotypes, we will never grow up as humanity if we dont break these kind of "selfbarriers", lets all learn and respect the different kind of cultures living on our world, and mos important, lets enjoy it!

There is a video about Indian food on the street, enjoy it!

Why not considerer the Native American music?

Sometimes we forget other kind of music because we only focus in the pop, rock, and classic music, but we have not notice the great talent that exist in this tribes or this culture. They are able to show their roots and all related with them about their stylelife. For most of them, this music has a special content because is an interaction between the heavens and the earth.

Currently the Native American music was discoverer in "the eyes of the world" becuase singing and percussion are the most important aspects of traditional music. Especially drums, flutes and rattles. Also their lyrics have a symbolism about religion rituals and social gatherings.

Today's Native American Music has taken on such outside influences as rock, blues, jazz, country and folk. A very important thing about this music is the "therapeutic style", as psychic or spiritual pursuit.
Some interesting is that this music has been awarded and selected for many categories around the world with a famous singers and musical exponents, is possible sees in this page http://www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com/home.cfm

Is incredible that this kind of music is very popular and it is aprecciated that. Native American music is a vast and diverse as the people who created it, and each tribe has its own musical approach and style that has been passed down for centuries and now you can reward it.

"Elizabeth became the prototype of the authoritarian ruler of the fifteenth century. A queen who ruled personally."

Why Queen Elizabeth would not marry?
when someone explained the answer to this question they tell us:
"She never married for the simple fact that by not saying yes to any proposal of marriage, (she did not say neither yes nor no)so the doors of the kingdoms of men who offered her marriage will remain open, well that  looks very good for everyone (within the Kingdom of England.) even though she was the queen and her duty was to ensure the good of the English people, I think there is another undercurrent in this decision.

Well my theory is:  Isabel was raised since childhood without a father, mother or any family or close tie, got used from the beginning of his reign to obey only her, take her the decisions about everything in her life and in her regin , because if it , had a council that advised her, she made all the decisions, she had the power, so why marry when being alone was doing so well, then, what benefits had by not marrying?, maintained its authoritarian and sovereign  power, ought not to submit to any king.

Not if my theory is right or wrong, I just think that Queen Elizabeth was human and had ambitions as a human being. Is it really so crazy to think that she liked the power and would not share it?

This theory was based on what I read on the page: Elizabeth I of England

East India Company: The trade company that changed the world

After the topic  about British Empire, I wanted research about British East Company, because it seems it had been more than a single trade Company, it had played an important role for the expansion of British possesions in the Asiatic continent. Well, I found a lot information about this and I discovered that EIC (East India Company) began like a business enterprise for trading spices from East India (presently South Asia), but soon it is converted in a kind of colonising wing of British Empire. They, dressed with their red jackets,  had army with more than 200 thousand men, they fought battles and they ruled India. They turned India into the British Raj.
The first battle was against Portuguese by the control  of the trade. The victory meant to get the favour of  Mughal Emperor. After that, they had authorized sanction of both countries - Britain and India for your work in the Asiatic country.
Within the year 1652 there were around 23 English factories in India. By 1689, the British East India Company dubiously acquired the status of a `nation` in the Indian mainland, separately governing the vast presidencies of Bengal, Mumbai and Chennai.
In 1757, they fought the Battle of Plassey against resistance from the regional rulers. After that they brought Bengal and  gradually the whole of India stays under the control of the company.
In 1858, the East India Company was dissolved and the British Government started the administration of India
And all began with a letter or charter gave for Queen Elizabeth to a group of business men that are looking forward ways for gain money. Finally, they got many more than that.
As appears in the article of “indianetzone”, “ it was not the result of deliberate design. East India Company was unique as it started its humble beginning as the mere trading company and later took over political interest and changed to the ruler of the entire country”.

Important facts and very usefull information about Elizabeth

I founded after some research very puntual facts of Elizabeth Age,i think that is very usefull material for study or to understand in a better way this topic,it might be kinda extensive but there we have the most important facts discused in class.

Most important facts during Elizabeth Reign:

  • Once her mother was executed, and Edward, her half-brother was born, the chances of Elizabeth's succession to the throne became very small, since she was declared as illegitimate.

  • At that time, Elizabeth was third in line to the throne, the first being Edward, and the second, Mary Tudor, her half sister, daughter of Lady Katherine of Aragon who was the first wife of Henry VIII.

  • Mary succeeded to the throne in 1553 on the death of Edward, and immediately made Catholicism the religion of the state. She had Elizabeth imprisoned in the Tower of London for two months, suspecting her of hatching a plot with the Protestants to take over the throne.

  • As a matter of fact, Roman Catholics always regarded her as illegitimate, and Elizabeth narrowly escaped from being executed after the rebellion against Queen Mary had failed in 1554.However, when Queen Mary died in 1558, Elizabeth finally did manage to ascend to the throne of England. Not only was she well educated, but she had also inherited the shrewdness, determination, and intelligence of both her parents.

  • The 45 years of her rule is generally regarded as the most glorious in the history of England, which saw the establishment of a secure Church of England, with its doctrines being instituted in the 39 Articles created in 1563, which was a compromise made between Protestantism and Roman Catholicism.

  • This compromise was accepted by most of her subjects, and it is thought that this settlement probably prevented England from experiencing the religious wars that beset France in the latter part of the 16th century.

  • Despite being capricious and autocratic, Queen Elizabeth the First was blessed with shrewd political savvy, which led to her choosing her ministers wisely, such as: Walsingham, who was head of the intelligence as well as a Secretary of State; Hatton, who was the Lord Chancellor; and Burghley, the Secretary of State.

  • When Queen Elizabeth I succeeded to the throne, England was in dire straits, with it being divided by religious strife and weakened by war, and the treasury being empty. Both France and Spain, wanted to take over the rule of England. Therefore, the people of England hoped that their new queen would marry somebody strong who could give her guidance.

  • However, Elizabeth immediately seized the governing of her country, and although there were several suitors, and she had many men as close friends, she was steadfast in her resolve not to marry, thus getting the name 'Virgin Queen'.

  • Elizabeth gave her country a period of peace, which led to prosperity. She reconciled the hostilities that England had with other countries, going to war only in self-defense.

  • It was during Queen Elizabeth the First's reign that a national identity was created for England. Hence, from a small and insignificant country, England became a world power. England also became a major cultural hub during her reign, while also becoming a country of greater harmony and tolerance.

  • Under the leadership of Queen Elizabeth I, England also extended its exploration and trade. In fact, the final years of her rule are referred to as the "Golden Age of England". The coasts of North and South America were first explored during her reign, with the first colonies being set up in the so-called New World. The State of Virginia, which was founded by Sir Walter Raleigh, one of Elizabeth I's favorite courtiers, was, in fact, was named after her, as the 'Virgin Queen'.

  • The writers, poets, musicians, and scholars who flourished during Queen Elizabeth the First's reign are too many to enumerate. However, some of the most famous writers are: Edmund Spencer, the poet; Christopher Marlowe, who authored Doctor Faustus; Ben Jonson, the dramatist; Francis Bacon, the essayist; and, of course, the writer regarded as the greatest poet and playwright in the English language, William Shakespeare.

If you wish, you can listen to one of her speeches here, and under the description you can read more about her personal life.

I hope that this information provides the needed help to understand this interesting age.

Why was called the Golden Age?

When Maria I was in the throne England was devastated because the many died was made for the battles between Catholic and Protestants. an other point was the economic of the Kingdom was fell and Spain became in Empire and his econimy was very well.

But in 1558 Elizabeth I came to the throne and the history of the Kingdom changed. She quickly decided in became the Kingdom in Anglican .She and her counselors gave the permission to the Companies  for the expedition in the New World.
Elizabeth I sets the grounds of the British Empire because she gave the permission for the expedition and companies colined parts of the new world for example Virginia. When England won Spain in the war between Catholic and protestants the trust of England crow and She and her couselors created different companies in her colonies (India. USA, Canada, etc) and the economy crow and the British empire was more big than the Spain empire.

Other important point was the Elizabeth Era coincided with the culture explosion because in this time were  opened more school, the people had pasion for literature and were the Era for William Shakespeare and others playwriths and painters.

But Golden  Age didn't last forever because in the last years of the Elizabeth I in the throne  she was many problems with the people and  her town was unhappy with the Queen for example In Irish the rebellion  was  broke and the war with Spain continued. In 1603 Elizabeth I died   and  Jacobo I the England came to the throne.

The historians was called the Elizbeth Era like the Golden Age because the Kingdom was prosperous in the economy, religion ,culture and the Kingdom was expanding for the new World and people most of the time was happy with the Queen . They said "The good Queen Bess"
 Elizabethan Era

The arts flourished during Elizabeth's time with the creation of works by such greats as William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. Writers paid tribute to the queen in many literary forms. The poet Edmund Spenser based his character of Gloriana in The Faerie Queen on Elizabeth, and she was sometimes referred to by this name.

File:Elizabeth I in coronation robes.jpg
Artists also honored Elizabeth by painting her portrait. These images reveal that she was an early fashionist in many ways. She loved beautiful clothing and jewelry. The most  of portrait contain symbolic objects such as roses and prayer books that would have carried meaning to viewers of her day. Later portraits of Elizabeth layer the iconography of empire globes, crowns, swords and column and representations of virginity and purity such as moons and pearls with classical allusions to present a complex "story" that conveyed to Elizabethan era viewers the majesty and significance of their Virgin Queen.
Her garments were often made with gold and silver. With the help of make-up, Elizabeth cultivated a dramatically pale look.

Elizabeth has largely been remembered as being a queen who supported her people. Her lengthy time on the throne provided her subjects with stability and consistency, and her sharp wits and clever mind helped navigate the nation through religious and political challenges. Sometimes referred to as the Golden Age, the arts had a chance to blossom with Elizabeth's support. An example of this was Early modern english Theater under Elizabeth drama unified expression as a far social class was concerned: The Court watched the same plays the commoners saw in the public playhouses.

a song to think

This is a song with a lot content because  it make us think about what are we watching on tv these days, we just watch some people talking about famous people just empty content and thats the open tv,  thats the kind of content that everyone can watch and in my opinion is zero contribution to the comunity becouse it has zero cultural contribution to young minds, i can bet that if you asked some students about the chilean Showbiz they will know a lot more than if you ask them about their perhaps last lesson  History but know about showbiz it's right for them because thats what the tv shows them, famous people fighting each other  it's more fun than be attentive to histoy channel or the history lesson.

She will be loved: My Fauvorite music video

I love this particular video for his letter and idealized love. Since it is possible to identify the content of the song meaning, because it is an impossible love.I think the song writer would simply tell us that what ever it takes a woman should always be loved. Also he  would comfort her and he loved her, and is waiting for her to realize that she loves him too.Can be taken from two perspectives but in this case it's about an old man and his socialite wife, whose relationship is juxtaposed with that of their daughter's relationship with a young man. The younger man, constantly obsesses over his girlfriend's mother, understanding that, although she is constantly rejected by her husband and that her life is one of emotional anxiety, she is nonetheless beautiful and attractive, and possibly more so than his own girlfriend. He sees the woman's face in place of her daughter's, increasing the romantic tension.

The music video was said to be inspired by the movie The Graduate Dustin Hoffman, although the history of the relationship between the mother and the young man is a nicer way instead of the humorous and somewhat bitter in the film.Like many other videos, many assume that it coincides with the song, but it opens with the phrase 'beauty queen of only 18' and then the video shows how the singer is in love with a woman in its 40. Although it can be interpreted to mean that the woman feels like 18 years, young and energetic, and yet does not receive appreciation from her husband, which makes her unhappy.

She Will Be Loved ranked 689 of "The 1000 best songs ever" magazine Q Music.

Want you bad: teenagers representation?

My favourite music video is "Want you bad",interpreted by "Offspring",The music video was filmed in Los Angeles on the 10th and 11 of January 2001, and was directed by Spencer SusserIt takes place in a party, with the band playing in the background. The vocalist of the band "Dexter Holland" doesn't like the video at all because it is kinda "inauthentic",showing a short film representing one of the most "well-known" scenes for media attraction.

The video protagonist is a man trying to get some girls for sexual action, but in every try he fails and get slapped, the meaning of the  title "Want you bad" is not for the idea "want you badly",the main idea is he want a "dominatrix" kind woman, wich means "a whoman who takes the dominant role in bondage".

Personally, i don't like the video for the main idea, for me the video is the representation of most teenager period, showing us a very similar scene compared to our parties as teenagers,in fact,i would dare to say that the reality of many of us is represented in the video.

Thriller: An historical video

My favourite music video

My favourite music video is Thriller of Michael Jackson. According  to publications of internet, the video was created by the own Jackson and John Landis, director of film “An american werewolf in London”. Landis has said that one day in 1983, received a call from Michael Jackson. The artist had seen the movie about the american werewolf and he wanted to make a film where he turned into a monster in the screen. Beside, Jackson wanted to tell a story with music. After they got the money, even Jackson put one part, they made, more than a music video, an small short film combining the story with the music and dance.

Jackson had to support five hours of make up for achieving the wished effect.
The video cost 800 thousand dollars, the most expensive of the history until then. Thriller transformed the history of music videos and  now is part of popular culture. Even the video is the first in come into the lists of culture treasure of USA.

For the public, the video is a parody of terror films,  because until zombies are funny. Even the zombie concept, as partly alive,  has been used in students protests, as happened on 2011 in Chile.

This music video had been imited a lot of times in differents places of the world. As a sample of its enormous success, I can say that it has been seen 133 million times in You Tube.
